INFORMATION:
WHY A TWO-CHAMBER SOLUTION?
The physical reason for using two chambers in a cold chamber is to control the temperature and humidity level and thereby ensure the user’s safety and comfort during cold therapy. There are several physical aspects to consider:
Temperature control:
When a person moves from a normal ambient temperature to an extremely cold environment such as a cryochamber, this can be a shock to the body, albeit a harmless one. By using a pre-chamber in which the temperature is gradually lowered, the body is given time to slowly adapt to the cold. This reduces the risk of unpleasant sensations or possible negative reactions of the body to the abrupt cold in the main chamber.
Avoidance of humidity:
When entering a cryochamber, a lot of moisture is brought into the chamber from the normal ambient air. In addition, the breathing air and the surface of the skin contain a lot of moisture, which should first be removed as well as possible, as the air in the main chamber is extremely dry at temperatures of -166°F (-110°C) and water vapor is immediately converted into tiny ice crystals in the air. This can lead to unpleasant situations if ice forms on the skin or mucous membranes. The pre-chamber makes it possible to better control the humidity and reduce the likelihood of ice accumulation and ice crystals in the air before entering the main chamber.
Energy efficiency and temperature stability:
By using a pre-chamber, the main chamber can be kept at the required target temperature (therapy temperature), e.g. -166°F (-110°C), more stably and efficiently. The pre-chamber is operated at significantly higher temperatures. When the intermediate door between the main chamber and pre-chamber is opened, there is a smaller temperature difference than would be the case with a single-chambersolution. This saves a considerable amount of energy and significantly reduces the waiting time for the next therapy session.
Sense of security:
The pre-chamber also acts as a safety feature. If a person feels unwell during cold therapy or wants to stop the treatment for any reason, the door to the main chamber remains closed and the person can end the treatment without deep freezing.
Overall, the use of two chambers in a cryochamber allows better control over the conditions and creates a more comfortable environment for the person receiving the cold therapy.
